Event Highlights

The Gallery of Change is a rotating exhibit space where big ideas meet local stories through hands-on exploration and shared discovery.

This month’s theme, Tennessee: Its Land & People, invites learners to explore how the geography, resources, and cultures of Tennessee have shaped one another for generations.

What You’ll Experience

Step onto a massive, 20-foot floor map of Tennessee and journey across the state from Mountain City to Memphis. Using hands-on props, visual markers, and interactive challenges, children and students explore the landforms, waterways, and regions that define the Volunteer State.

As they move across the map, participants place symbols representing natural resources, agriculture, music, and industry, building a giant product and culture map together. From coal and corn to music legends and regional crops, every stop adds another layer to the story of Tennessee.

The exhibit blends geography, history, and culture into an experience that is active, visual, and collaborative.

Why It Matters

Understanding place helps children understand people. By exploring how Tennessee’s mountains, rivers, and fertile land influenced settlement patterns, industries, and traditions, learners gain a deeper appreciation for how environment and culture are connected.

This exhibit supports critical thinking, spatial awareness, and historical understanding while encouraging teamwork and discussion across a wide range of ages and grade levels.
